 2017 Preview 


       Alma Bryant finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Alma Bryant finished ninth in Class 7A region one with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Hurricanes last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Alma Bryant averaged scoring just 9.5 points a game. The Hurricanes also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 36.2 points a game.

       The Hurricanes would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Alma Bryant football program has struggled with a record of 16-56.

       Over the past 19 seasons, Alma Bryant has managed to compile a record of 75-125. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 7A and 295th in the AHSAA. The Hurricanes have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2003.

       Coach Hoehn's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 33-31 (51.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Hoehn's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The Alma Bryant Hurricanes will play in Class 7A region one during the 2017 season.

       The Hurricanes enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       This season, the Hurricanes will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one.

       The Hurricanes open the 2017 season on the road against region opponent Murphy on Thursday, August 31 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Last year the Murphy Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 7A region one. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Central Phenix City by a score of 56-7.

       Alma Bryant and Murphy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Hurricanes have a 5-19-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Murphy winning by a score of 55-14.
